Challenger bolt action rifle
The exceptional Take-Down Repeating Rifle by Chapuis Armes
The Challenger Bolt Action Repeating Rifle is a working example in modularity, ruggedness and accuracy. It lets the hunter switch calibers, barrels, triggers and scopes without using any tool. Available now for the Winchester Short Magnum calibers which we find are very well adapted to the fluid, slick Challenger short-stroke reciprocating action.
A subtle redesigning of the rifle action and enhanced finish combine to give the new Classic Challenger its distinctive lines and increase its already very fast operation. Fine arabesques complement the reciprocating slide. The bolt handle has been slightly bent back for faster manipulation and better looks. New stocks in the Central European taste sport a «hog’s back» and Bavarianstyle cheekpiece. With three massive locking lugs in the bolt head that precisely match mortises cut into the solid steel barrel extension, the Challenger action has a 60-degree bolt lift, features 100 per cent positive locking and is noted for its superior safety when compared with other systems
present on the market.
The hammer-forged barrels available for the Challenger rifle are made in the Chapuis Armes facilities. The carefully selected barrels are precision-fitted to a closely-machined extension, which in turn sits in a rigid, all-steel bed. Barrels can be removed and replaced without any point of impact shift, preserving the excellent practical accuracy of the Challenger rifle.
Travelling hunters often want to be able to go from a silent stalk or high seat - where a fast, flat-shooting caliber such as .270 WSM really shines when used in conjunction with a set trigger - to the action-filled «battue» driven game shoots, where a larger, slower, heavy-bulleted cartridge such as the 9,3 x 62mm is highgly efficient and where fast shooting mandates a crisp single-stage, light and yet very safe trigger. By switching in a few seconds without any toiols the scoped barrel, bolt face and trigger group, the hunter will conserve the stock pull, feel and liveliness of the rifle he originally selected to fit him - safely, reliably and accurately. Conversion kits are available. Optionnally, fluted barrels are also available.
